The Las Vegas Flying Adventure!

My friend Dave and I decided to rent a plane in Las Vegas to see the sites.
On February 16th (Dave's Birthday) we picked up a Cessna 172 while our wives went shopping on the Strip.

Here she is.  Cessna 172 N623SP.

After liftoff.  The terminal at VGT.   This is where all the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam tours start.

After you leave the airport and enter the VFR transition route to the east, downtown Las Vegas will be on your left.  The long roof is the light system for the Fremont Street Experience.

Looking to the southeast as we continue east.  This is the Las Vegas Strip.
Interstate 15 is the freeway in the picture.

The Stratasphere Tower at the north end of the Las Vegas Strip.  We are at 4,000 feet of altitude.
The top of the tower is at 3,200.  The tower is just short of 1,200 feet tall.

Lake Mead is just east of Las Vegas.  The water level is a little low.  We originally planned to fly over the Grand Canyon but it was another hour to the east and very rugged terrain so we cut the trip short.
(Remember.....our wives were shopping!)

If you go to Las Vegas you have to fly over Hoover Dam.

Dave...don't take the picture until I can smile.   Oops..dang!   Too late.

It must have been a successful landing because Dave was able to take my picture when we got back.

We had a great time.  Dave flew one trip and I flew the other. Of course, there's a little more to it.  We did a variety of check out procedures to be able to rent the aircraft.  We studied the charts before we got there.   And we got some expert advice on how to navigate through the complicated Las Vegas airspace.

But........we'll be back next year!
